The Google Phone Will Change My World
/sarcasm
I didn't know the SBC was after the CBF again. Does the SBC recognize them as baptists, or Christians for that matter, or are they anathema? Situation sounds mildly similar to the LC-Missouri Synod v. ELCA scenario.
Also, it sadly sounds like average church-life for the past couple thousand years. Very sad.
Anywho, the SBC has always been after the CBF and I don't anticipate that pursuit to halt anytime soon. In my own heretical views, it all comes down to money. The SBC is a well-oiled money machine and is continually pissed that the CBF is able to divert funds from parts of major congregations in the South that would otherwise have to give the entire offering/pledge doll to the SBC. A few churches who are solidly in the SBC camp have started to outlaw the giving of monies to the CBF by their congregants, and I'm sure Jesus is quite pleased with that.
Instead of fighting over such pettiness, Baptist groups (and Lutherans, Episco's, Methodicals, Presbyters, etc) would be well served to read the Bible more often.
I would love to see either 1: yes we do that and we realize the error of our ways and we repent; 2: yes we do that but our actions are based in a firm scriputral conviction; 3: no we do not do that and you are mischaracterizing our actions; 4: no we do not support the actions of a single member acting in his own accord....etc.
Playing the victim when presented with facts does not resolve the issue and it embarasses those of us who go to a Church that sends you money.
