I don't know that I could have Christmas without one.  celebrate your pagan roots -- and cut down a tree!  besides, these things are farmed and they help local growers especially in western NC.  sam, if you're not convince (and of course i know you're not) go buy a potted tree and decorate it, then plant it in your yard.
